Today in India, 1 in every 68 children between 2 and 9 years of age is reportedly diagnosed on the autism spectrum. These children are in our classrooms, neighbourhoods, and families across every corner of the country.
Brain Bristle exists to make sure none of them are left behind.

Autism Numbers diagnosed are rising rapidly, how we respond to the diagnosis today can change our tomorrow. Our children on the autism spectrum are in our public schools, our homes, our organizations, thus, how we intervene becomes important.
We work to keep the ones in school, in school, and bring the ones outside, inside our schools.
With effective, trained intervention with our schools, educators and system, we believe we can shift millions of autism life trajectories.
Brain Bristle means to bristle a tangled mind.
Our Work From the Ground Up
We begin work at the most important level of intervention, with children on the autism spectrum across Mumbai’s low income schools via our laboratory of a Social Work Fellowship.
Social Work Fellows are trained round the year in autism, teaching and leadership pedagogy. We also partner with other organizations for their training like The Circle India U, ASB and more.
This year, we are opening trainings to schools, educators and a larger audience.
Social Work Fellows work with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Student Accommodation Plans (SAP) for student achievement goals for their school caseload.
We take our Modules of Learning to schools, educators and regions pan-India via a dedicated training team.
We bring research backed awareness to life through ongoing studies on owork and daily engagement with multiple stakeholders and organizations creating visibility, dialogue and planting seeds of inclusion.
Today in India, 1 out of every 68, under 10 year olds is diagnosed on the autism spectrum. According to a 2021 study published in the Indian Journal of Pediatrics:
ASD is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
ASD is more than 4 times more common among boys than among girls.
Available scientific evidence suggests that there are probably many factors that make a child more likely to have autism, including environmental and genetic factors.
Available epidemiological data conclude that there is no evidence of a causal association between measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, and autism. Previous studies suggesting a causal link were found to be filled with methodological flaws(2)(3).
There is also no evidence to suggest that any other childhood vaccine may increase the risk of autism.

For our direct intervention, we work directly with low income schools and communities of Mumbai.
For our training and community work, we work virtually or out of communities where word of our work gets spread to.
Today 1 out of every 68 under 10-year-olds tested in India on the CARS-2 is diagnosed on the spectrum of autism. We work to make autism accessible, included and understood.
Brain Bristle‘s outreach wing uses its voice to provide a thorough education into autism. We present our work at conferences, summits, events and our community work focuses on autism awareness and autism education across parts of India and beyond.
